In order to support farmers in this area, approximately 1500 native trees and shrubs will be planted along an agricultural ditch that runs adjacent to Inch Acres, Early Bird Eggs, Zestful Gardens, and other neighboring properties. The trees and shrubs we plant will help shade out invasive species, which will help improve water flow, restore fish habitat, and contribute to the long-term agricultural viability of the various farms.

The project is led by Pierce Conservation District and PCC Farmland Trust, who have protected farmland in the Puyallup Valley for nearly a decade, and are now leading the Farming in the Floodplain Project in 2015. This pilot project along Clear Creek in Tacoma aims to meet multiple community and environmental needs in response to flooding. Through their research, they learned that drainage issues are some of the biggest problems farmers face in the Clear Creek community.

Coffee, lunch, and tools will be provided.
